Insomnia

A very late night little update about my CSC experience. That’s right … it’s not about the actual EVENT … it’s how I lived it. Today’s word is:
Insomnia.

I’ve never been one to like partying all night and going to bed at 6 am. In fact, I’m pretty much a zombie if I don’t get my beauty sleep (which is 8 hours and up). But you know, sometimes you just got to say (”hey, i’m gonna fuck you, gently…” … Oups!) “Well screw that i’m staying up and partying tonight, baby!!!”.

So that’s what I did after my Jive competition on friday night. It was obviously a good 1 hour late (so we ended the competition at something like midnight?)but we were all thriving on the adrenaline rush of the competition. So we all started partying. Booze and Guru in the famous party room. (If I can get some proof of the horrors we’ve seen in this room i’ll post ‘em up. I’m sure Steve and Luc will be MORE then happy to know about that).

Anyways, back to the little sleep-story. So I drank a couple of drinks (nothing to hammer me up actually) and half a Guru. 4 hours of partying later, we decide to head back to our college frathouse (Again, I’ll explain later). So we just sat around joking and talking. I tried going to sleep for a few minute but I was oddly unable to sleep, so I went back to the discussions on the first floor. At around 4h30-5h, we all went to bed.

We were sleeping on an inflated matress. So, I couldn’t really move unless I wanted to wake up the person next to me. That annoyed me so much since I usually roll in bed like a mother fucking salsa dancer. But I stayed put, searching for sleep …

… silence… more silence… rays of early sunshine comming through the drapes…

So I layed there, completely awake for a good 45 minutes. Being bored out of my mind and finding absolutely no sleep (I didn’t even feel THAT tired), I decided to just go outside and walk it off. So I walked, went around the hotel. I went to the party room (who still had 5-6 drunks people dancing to some horrible music). I even paid 4 $ for cereals out of sheer boredom. I watched every possible trainning sessions from 5 to 8… God, I wished there would have been a tv there…

Long story short; I didn’t sleep at all that day. For the first time in my life, I spent fucking 24 hours without as much as 10 minutes of rest. The only time I DID get some rest was actually at around the 30th hours, where I mysteriously fell asleep on a couch, almost in midst of a conversation. I woke up an hour later drooling like a slug and my friend sitting in front of me going “… are you ok?”. I had no idea that I could actually live for 3 days on something like 5 hours of sleep and be fully functionnal!

Now, it’s 1h41 am on sunday. I’m back home and guess what i’m doing? That’s right… not sleeping. I took two sleeping pills 30 minutes ago and those fuckers haven’t done SHIT. I’m not yawning and my eyes are completely open. What… the … hell.

Trust me, next year, i’m bringing ear plugs, sleep aids and a f-ing sleeping mask

Now i’ll try to back to bed and trying to stop my endless thought about next year and how cool it would be to do that move or how we could kick the shit out of Quebec and make people realise how nicer our jive is and how much they are nothing more then Jock douchebags (well at least two of them).

*UPDATE*
It’s Monday morning, I finally got some sleep (after 2 hours of rolling around in my bed thinking about “what move would be cool and such”). I’m feeling a bit better (though it’s rainy and lame outside…) but my head still feels like it’s in overload mode: I can hear loud music and I can’t stop thinking about choregraphy and such. I’m a bit hurt by the weekend, but i’m so looking forward to next year. It’s not the last that they’ve seen of me!

The Future Is Unwritten

Joe Strummer
I have just finished watching the Joe Strummer’s movie. I found it quite interesting though the movie was an odd life resumĂ© (oddly oriented on how Joe felt throughout his life… yet without being too sappy about it).

It also made me feel, less alone in my angst against nothing. It also made me understand that I should stop worrying about not having done much with my youth and that I haven’t done what all I have wanted. As a friend once told me: “I look like I’m always one step behind you? I’m just building momentum to overpass you.”

Stop running after time. Who cares what your age is.
What really matters is what you do.
If you take more time to get somewhere then some others, then so be it. Enjoy the ride.

If you were me, you’d be lookin’ good!

sixstringsamurai
I think i’ll never say thanks enough to Guillaume for my new love:

Six String Samurai

I just finished watching it about 15 minutes ago, and I already have bought the comic book made about it (or vice-versa… who cares). I’m a big fan of well-produced hard labored B-movies, and i’ll tell you, this is the new king.

I was kind of tired of have my good old Evil Dead in the top chart, well it just got bumped by Six String Samurai. To put it in a couple of words; It really, rock. Rockabilly style.. Everything is almost perfect. Excellent acting, AMAZING music choice (The Red Elvises, i’m downloading their Cd’s right now), Samurai, 50’s Buddy-holly lookalike and post-nuclear vibe? Can’t get better then this.

The main character is fucking great. From the suit to the guitar and the shoes (“Hey, nice shoes.”), everything is right on the spot for a rockabilly king. The acting is almost perfect (the attitude is just right on) and the fighting is really good (you’d actually believe the guy knew how to fight). Well, the guitar playing seemed a tad fake but hey ! he looks damned good! And the bad guy is just perfecly cheezy.

The low points are most definately the gruntings of the kid (thought not SUPER annoying… it’s still a tad bad.), the voice over (lips don’t always match and the voice seems low-key a bit…) and that the story seems a tad thin and that some characters are not used to their full potential (the nuclear family that looks cannibal-ish/zombie would’ve added much more to the movie with their presence).

I’ll try to cut this short (since my movie partner’s already drooling on my bed), I loved every second of it. I’m highly dissapointed that the director/write didn’t seem to do much else (the main actor only did kung-fu movies before that ! Hahaha).

MAL’s score?

Acting: 9/10
Music: 9/10
Film-style (camera angles and such): 8/10
Originality: 12/10
Re-watch value: 7/10
One-liners: 8/10 (still not quite Evil dead’s oneliner… but close)

Overall:

9/10

Sweet-ass rockabilly shoes.

Spambots and pompous hair

Darned! I’ve been getting those fake comments on my blog for the past 2-3 weeks, it’s rather annoying. Like a kid on christmas that opens a playstation 2 box only to find an N64 inside…

On an another note, I’m trying to perfect brian setzer’s hairstyle on me. Quite a difficult task…. Especially if you look at “where he went wrong…”

Brian wrong #1Brian wrong #2

And where he’s got it all (I mean look at that f-ing guitar !!! And look at the rod in the back ! Gawd damned some have it all)

Hell yeah brian.

I don’t know when i’ll be back for more blah blah … I’m actually thinking about moving, writting songs and becoming a rock-star… hahaha yeah i’ll keep you posted on that.

Minor Swing: Gypsy-stylee

This morning on my way to work I was listenning to Botar (Bandits of the acoustic revolution) and there was this song (I think it was something like “A perfect life” or something … I don’t remember) with this crazy gypsy-like guitar solo and it immediately made me think of Django Reinhart.
I remember hearing about Django Reinhart for the first time in the movie Swing Kids. I was amazed as soon as I started listenning to his stuff (though not that easy to find…). The man had only 2 fingers, had to survive through the second world war… and was an INCREDIBLE guitarist. I really want to learn to play like that … uhm. So here’s a couple of video of Django or people playing his song (quite well I might add):

Cheers Y’all!
